Sarah Hood Iconology
Iconology is based on ancient Eastern design. Where my collectible jewelry is sometimes conceptual and fragile, these pieces are tangible and tactile. I have tried to create wearable work that is simple and accessible, but that also references my conceptual work—a balance between formal concerns and beautiful design. Inspired by antique Indian coin jewelry, these pieces combine gold and silver discs with ancient Tibetan symbology to produce modern results. I combine an archetypal form I’ve been coming back to for years—the circle—with highly stylized imagery that cuts through culture—a breaking wave, a hand gesture, a floating lotus. This is jewelry that can be worn day or night, always ready to reward a closer look.
